Global condom manufacturer Durex confused everyone Monday morning when it jokingly announced on Twitter a new range of condoms, featuring a flavour that has no business being anywhere near a bedroom – eggplant.
“#BreakingNews: We’re launching an exciting new savoury #condom range – Eggplant flavour! #CondomEmoji,” the Tweet read.

Durex announces launch of eggplant flavoured condom
Durex already has a range of flavoured condoms on the market, including apple, banana, strawberry and chocolate, but most people can agree eggplant is the flavour that nobody asked for – and it’s all those pesky millennials’ fault. The eggplant emoji has become a popular way for millennials to symbolize male genitalia while sexting.
The new emoji-inspired flavour caused a lot of people on the Internet to lose their minds.
One Twitter user told the condom company “You guys have lost it.” While another tweeted, “Just stop.”
@durex you guys have lost it.

Thankfully, everyone can breathe a sigh of relief because this was all just a big joke.
A representative from the company confirmed to The Mirror Online that the announcement was meant to further the company’s campaign to see a condom emoji introduced to help promote safe sex to young people.
“Durex knows there is no place for an aubergine (eggplant) when it comes to safe sex,” said the spokesperson. “It’s just as questionable, in fact, as a decision not to introduce a Safe Sex Emoji to empower young people to talk about sex, safely, in a language they are comfortable with.”
