A woman who was jogging with her dog in Kirkland, WA, was shocked to come across an adorable kitten in a box in an alleyway — but even more suprised to see that a handwritten note was left with the baby cat.
The woman’s dog happened upon the box and began sniffing it with interest. Taking a closer look, the woman discovered that someone had abandoned a kitten with a note of explanation written on the lid of the box.
It appears that the note, penned in orange marker, may have been written by a child — one with wisdom beyond their years. The note-writer alleged that the animal was being mistreated, and pleaded for a loving home for it. Abandoning the cat may have actually saved her life.
The note reads: “My mommy’s boyfriend is mean to me. desperet [sic] for loving home.”
The woman who found the kitten took her home and had her checked out by a vet before taking her to a nearby cat rescue center. Workers found the feline to be in good health. Since being rescued, the kitten has been living in a foster home with other cats of similar ages, and is doing very well.
The rescue center posted on Facebook, saying, “We have more questions than answers, but are forever thankful for the bravery of the child who knew the kitten deserved better and the kindness of the woman who saved the kitten.”
